When San Luis Obispo was cow heaven
On Friday October 6th, join the History Center of SLO County for our next Carnegie Lecture, “When SLO was Cow Heaven” with Marilyn Darnell.
The 1920s ushered in the second industrial revolution and changed the dairy industry forever. What changed? The 1930s catapulted San Luis Obispo County to new heights in the state of California. What did the people do? |
Louis Sinsheimer is said to have credited the dairy industry alone for the growth of San Luis Obispo when he was Mayor. SLO is full of interesting stories of everyday people who helped build the county. That of Mary Francis Jackson, a local pioneer woman who gave up her treasure and Swiss-Italian Abramo Muscio coming here as a teen are just two you'll hear at this Carnegie Lecture.
Today people continue to collect old glass milk bottles and all sorts of dairy farm utensils. Why? Painted cows dot the landscape that once paraded on the Madonna fairgrounds, but where's L.C.?
Help Marilyn keep the interest in our dairy history alive by attending her lecture and heeding her call to spread the word.
