A firm, impartial understanding of its past provides a community with an identity and the power to control its future.
We are a repository for objects, photographs, books, and apocrypha, with our archives containing in excess of 100,000 items, but we are so much more than that, too!
• Our museum housed in San Luis Obispo’s Carnegie Library welcomes guests from around the world
• The research room provides access to documents and responds to hundreds of inquiries every year.
• The incomparable Dallidet Adobe & Gardens preserves a slice of yesteryear, still living and breathing today while also hosting one-of-a-kind events and experiences.
• In the last year we have upgraded our inventory software, making our collection much more accessible to the public as we continue the work of digitization.
• Our Carnegie Lecture Series presents speakers, subjects, and stories of our county’s past, bringing unique learning opportunities to members and the general public.
• We are constantly growing and trying new ideas, so keep an eye on history!

We can't do the job alone.
Will you help us?
When you donate, you aren't just giving to the nebulous concept of history. We are an organization that does concrete things in the real world - things that cost money to accomplish. We count on your support to pursue our mission of improving the understanding and appreciation of local history.
